El Hidróxido de sodio es conocido como sosa caustica, se utiliza principalmente en la industria en la fabricación de papel, tejidos y en algunos detergentes, también es usado para el destapar las tuberías de cocina y baños.
Es un sólido cristalino blanco y sin olor, además de ser muy corrosivo para la piel.
