El cloroformo o también conocido como tricloruro de metilo es un compuesto químico que se obtiene por la cloración, es un líquido volátil, inflamable es incoloro y de un olor muy penetrante.
Es usado en tintorerías como disolvente de grasas, en limpieza, en extintores, también en la fabricación de colorantes, fumigantes, insecticidas y plaguicidas.
