Se formulan a partir de la lísis de plaquetas humanas, mismas que liberan abundantes factores de crecimiento y citocinas necesarias para la proliferación celular. Estas características sustituyen al SBF (suero bovino fetal) usado en los medios para cultivo celular o bien reducir considerablemente su uso en los mismos.
